What was your work background before joining the UC MBA?

For the ten years prior to study I was working for New Zealand Employment Service and for much of the time studying part time to complete a Bachelor of Arts (History). After many years of advising people on issues relating to their career choices and job needs I moved into a management role. Prior to this I had a few years trying different jobs and roaming the globe.

Why did you decide to do an MBA?, and why UC?

After a few years in a managerial role I recognised it wasn’t for me. It just didn’t ring my bells! A friend of mine had just completed the MBA programme and had shared her experiences with me. I was tossing up between a MA and the MBA Programme and the latter won the day. It was practical and recognised internationally. And I felt it had more potential to launch me into a new career.

Do you have any memorable moments from the MBA programme?

The best aspect of my 15 months in the MBA Programme was the people. We had a great bunch of classmates many of whom I remain in contact with today. And very quickly I realised how much I love to research, analyse, strategize and write. My new career developed pretty quickly in my mind and I soon had the opportunity to put it into practice.
